The main object of the my master thesis was to study photophysical properties of stilbene derivatives. Stilbene derivatives have very short lifetimes, high quantum yield, huge changes of dipole moment between ground and excited states. Because of the molecule structure containing double ethylenic bond and strong donor-acceptor derivative grups there are some internal and external photophysical processes widely investigated by spectroscopic methods. Possible photophysical processes in stilbene derivatives are: intramolecular charge transfer, photoisomerization changing the molecular shape from trans to cis form and the solvent effect on the stilbene deactivation pathway. When I worked on my master thesis, absorption, emission and exication spectra I have measured on standard spectrophotometers and spectrofluorometers. Next physical quantity which I have measured was the emission anisotropy. Measurements were based on the specialized equipment based on the photon counting method. I also took a part in time-resolved measurments of time-resolved emission spectra. It is complex spectroscopicmethod using laser technology for sample excitation and streak-camera system. Because of complex character of the measured data, the data analysis needs specialized software
